What's going on...
We have been working diligently on finding equivalent fractions during math time. We're also spending time learning how to watch instructional videos. This will continue throughout the first unit. Our next topic will be comparing fractions!
This week we started learning about systems. Systems are when different parts work together to make something happen. We'll be learning a lot about systems this year, starting with Living Systems!
All 5th graders are working on building their read-to-self stamina. Each day they show steady improvements! Our long term goal is to be able to read (uninterrupted with focus) for 30 minutes. It's a lofty goal, but we'll get there!
This week we made a list of writing ideas and started an introduction for the personal narrative we will be working on for the few weeks. We also started our cursive booklet. Students have been reviewing the letters and practicing in class.
We learned about Core Democratic Values this week and have homework that is due Tuesday. Students are making a "Diversity Brown Bag" and already have a bag with directions tucked inside. They will share the bag on Tuesday. Let me know if you have any questions about the assignment.
Other important stuff
MAP testing will begin next week and last just over a week. 5th grade will be testing immediately before lunch, so if you could avoid appointments at that time, that would be very helpful :)
9/15-Constitution Day! We will focus on the Constitution in Social Studies!
9/15-Picture Day-forms went home today!
