HALLOWEEN PARADE SOPs- (Monday 10/31 at 2:30): This year, we will circle the entire building (weather permitting). Please remain outside for the parade. All parents that will enter the building for any classroom parties MUST obtain a visitor’s pass, and at NO time are parents allowed to remove students from the parade. If you would like to take your child home after the parade, please obtain a visitor’s pass and then sign him/her out in the classroom. All the teachers will have a sign in/out log for the parties. That is the way we are asking to guarantee everyone’s safety. You do not need a pass if you are here for the parade as that is outside, and we ask that you remain outside for the parade. In the case of inclement weather, we will move the parade to the gym. Parents will sit in the bleachers and students will watch in the hallways. Last, please honor our no-treat policy. Let’s have a safe AND fun Halloween!
What we're doing...
The math tests of unit 1 are being sent home today (Friday). If your child scored below an 80%, they should be practicing these skills at home. They can rewatch videos, practice online games we have posted in our google classroom, or create their own problems similar to the test items. Unit 2 began this week and students mostly focused on reading and writing decimal numbers. Next week we'll begin comparing decimal numbers.
We are wrapping up our first unit on Reading with Power this week. Next week we'll begin our next unit on reading Informational Text. Our first at home reading calendar for the month of October is due on Tuesday. November calendars are in Friday folders.
This week was pretty exciting in science for a few reasons. First, our butterflies emerged from their chrysalis', which was super exciting to watch! We'll be learning more about how butterflies get their nutrients in the next few weeks. We also planted wheat seeds this week. The students are trying to figure out what will make a seed grow: nutrients, water, or sun. To do this, they have planted 4 different plants, 2 are in dark bags and 2 are in light bags. We'll be observing these over the next few weeks to compare.
This week I introduced how to do several spelling sorts. We have been using a generic list to practice these sorts. Next week we will use another list as practice so students know what to do when they get their own lists and start spelling homework. I will let you know when they have their first personal list of words and when you can expect the homework to begin. Typically homework will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Look for more information in the next week or two.
This week we have been learning about the cultural regions of American Indians in our country. Blandford Nature Center slips and money are due next Friday. Make sure you have a background check completed and turned in if you would like to go with us.
