What we're doing...
Science tests were also graded, and for the most part the 5th graders did well. There is a paper going home in their Friday Folder that has their score on it. Please sign it and send it back on Monday. It is very important that I get those back so I can add the next 2 investigations in this unit to it before adding it to the report card. IF your child did NOT score an 80% or better, there is an Ecosystems Project attached to it. This can be worked on during their indepedent time at school (sometimes), but the BULK of this work needs to be completed at home. I told the students that I hightly recommend that they finish the project in the next 2 weeks, but that it doesn't have to be done until Christmas Break (when I enter in their final scores). Here's what I need from you (the parent)...while you can certainly help if a child is struggling with the directions or content, please do NOT give them the answers or do this project for them...you already passed 5th grade, no need to do it again ;) I really want this project to show what your child knows, as it is replacing their test score.
In Language Arts we started to revise our narratives by creating effective leads and conclusions. We will continue to revise and edit our stories next week.
In Social Studies we started a unit on Native Americans. A note about our first field trip to Blandford Nature Center is in the Friday folder. The trip is on November 14 and we will be going from about 10:45-12:30. If you would like to go, make sure you fill out a background check form. The field trip note and money should be returned by November 4.

HALLOWEEN PARADE SOPs- (Monday 10/31 at 2:30): This year, we will circle the entire building (weather permitting). Please remain outside for the parade. All parents that will enter the building for any classroom parties MUST obtain a visitor’s pass, and at NO time are parents allowed to remove students from the parade. If you would like to take your child home after the parade, please obtain a visitor’s pass and then sign him/her out in the classroom. All the teachers will have a sign in/out log for the parties. That is the way we are asking to guarantee everyone’s safety. You do not need a pass if you are here for the parade as that is outside, and we ask that you remain outside for the parade. In the case of inclement weather, we will move the parade to the gym. Parents will sit in the bleachers and students will watch in the hallways. Last, please honor our no-treat policy. Let’s have a safe AND fun Halloween!

Conference availability is on a first come, first serve basis so the earlier you login and schedule your conference, the more likely you are to find times that work best for you! If you are scheduling for more than 1 child, please leave at least 15 minutes between conferences. You will need to submit your child’s/children’s name(s) as well as provide an e-mail address to begin the process, to receive an e-mail confirmation and to receive reminders prior to any conference scheduled. Parents will also be able to print a copy of their schedule if a hard copy is preferred.Please do not hesitate to contact Sylvia with any questions or if you have struggles with signing up.

Rules are as follows:
1. Students will contribute change (pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters) to their college team of choice.
2. Dollar bills/Checks contributed will count reversely/be deducted from the opposing team's total amount raised. Note that the money is still going towards the overall cause!
3. The flags of each college team will represent place and school fight song will be played Tuesday - Friday to identify winning team for the previous day.
