What we're doing...
In math the students continue to work through decimals. Most students are working on adding and subtracting decimals. We will continue working on these skills through next week.
In science we've been learning about different organisms (plants and animals) and how they get their nutrients. Next week we'll begin focusing on the digestive system :) Please look for a study guide to go home on Wednesday of next week. The students will be filling it in during class (so they have the right answers). There will also be a quizlet shared with the students during class. They can access it from this link: https://quizlet.com/_2qt6fn This test will be slightly different than the last test. It doesn't rely as much on vocabulary knowledge, but rather on their ability to apply what we've been learning into more real situations. I would HIGHLY encourage them to study their study guide and know it inside and out. If your child has an extra credit assignment from the first test, I strongly encourage that they get it done by Thanksgiving Break!
Writing: This week we wrote our final personal narrative. We will also be working on one more sort to prepare for our first sorts at our level. The first sort will be given after Thanksgiving break. Students were also able to choose a famous American to start learning about very soon. I will do my best over the weekend to assign them one of their top ten.
Social Studies: We will be going on our first field trip on Monday! Pay attention to the weather so your child is dressed for whatever it may be. We will be outside most of the time! Our team will be leaving about 10:45 and will return by lunch.
We also have a Social Studies test next week on Native Americans. Your child will bring a study sheet home today for the test next Thursday (Bush's class) and Friday (Compau's class). They need to study the study guide and not just the Quizlet with the vocabulary. I will give them time in class to do the Quizlet, so please push the study guide at home.
Next week we'll be starting our unit on informational text, so if your kiddo loves non-fiction then they will be excited! Continue to have your child record his/her reading at home on the November calendar! This is homework!
