Science: The students took Investigation 1 Science tests this week. I will have them graded and in Friday folders next week. For students who did not master Investigation 1 or get an 80% on the test, there will be a project they will need to complete. I will send it home with the test. We are starting Investigation 2 on Models and the students are learning about mysterious black box models. Please ask your students about what they have noticed about the boxes so far.
Reading: This week we have continued to learn about characters and how we can create theories about them and see if they hold true.
Language Arts: We have started writing the rough draft of the speech that will be given to the class. This is not what is said on Famous American night, just to the class. I also score it for a grade on the report card. Speeches will be given on the three days after our winter break, February 21, 22, and 23. I will assign a day for each student and they will bring their costume that day and speech cards. I will let students know next week the day they will give their speech. We will finish up our speech and start writing it on index cards next week.
We will also go to the computer lab to finish printing things for our tri-fold board. We were supposed to do that today, but with the snow day we will on Monday. Feel free to print things at home if you can. Time capsules should be finished and stay at home until Famous American Night. The board also stays home until that night. I will be creating a checklist this weekend that you can use as we finish the project over the next couple of weeks. I am also including a copy of the Enrichment Packet that includes directions for all of the extra board options. Many students are leaving them at school so I would like you to have a copy. It is linked here-only four optional items are needed and not 5. If there is something that doesn't fit on the board your child would like to include, they can set it on the table that night where their board and time capsule are displayed.
Social Studies: We are continuing to learn about the 13 colonies and how they were founded.
