What's been going on...
There is a test on MONDAY :) :) Study guides are going home in Friday Folders, so please help your child study this weekend! Our next unit is multiplying and dividing fractions!
In Friday Folders you will find a breakdown of our first unit of science. There were two tests (both grades are marked on the breakdown page). There is also a grade circled...that is their report card grade. If you aren't happy with their grade, there are two extra credit options. The first was an ecosystems project that went home at the end of the last test. I have extra copies if you need them. The second will be distributed next week. The students will have an opportunity to work on it in class during science next week, if needed. Our next unit of study is Mixtures and Solutions!
There is a note in Friday folders about spelling. Students will receive a list on Monday and have their first homework on Tuesday. Let me know if you have any questions about the note! They have also started taking notes for their informational book. Today we went to the computer lab so they could print 1 or 2 biographies about their famous American. They also printed a picture they will use to help them draw a portrait of their person in Art class in a few weeks.
We started our new unit on Exploration. Students have been learning about how and why Europeans came to the new world.
Reading calendars from November are due and December calendars have been passed out to students. We are still in our non-fiction unit in class and learning about identifying the central message in a text.
We had a great first session of yoga! We would also like to offer students the chance to learn how to knit. Through a grant last year, we have knitting needles and yarn for students to learn this skill. Knitting also helps with stress, anxiety and gives children a great sense of accomplishment. If you or anyone you know would be willing to teach a small group of students to knit, let your child's homeroom teacher know and provide an email address. We would be happy to connect with them to start this about February. They would have to fill out a background check form to work with students and we can send one home or attach it to an email. The more volunteers we have, the more students who can particpate. Let us know if you have any questions!
